Before They Got to the Backdrop, Every Winner Learned From Someone.

They had one trusted source when they started. You've got YouTube, Facebook, the feed store... all saying something different about feeding, facilities, selection, daily care. No wonder it feels overwhelming.

Not Everyone Has a Mentor Down the Road

We were lucky. Our instructors grew up with parents, neighbors, and friends who took the time to teach us. Not every family has that. That's why we built Show Smart.

Michael Schertz

Meet the Show Smart Contributors

Michael Schertz offers a lifetime of experience, unmatched credibility, and championship-level expertise in this instructional video. Raised in a family deeply rooted in agricultural education, Michael learned the fundamentals of livestock evaluation and management early on. His passion for excellence began in the show ring and has grown into a career dedicated to producing winners. As an FFA and 4-H member, Michael built an impressive record in both the cattle and lamb barns. He earned spots in the premium sales at every major Texas livestock show and won the Grand Champion Steer title at the State Fair of Texas. He continued his journey with a livestock judging scholarship at Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Master of Science in Meat and Muscle Biology. During his time at Texas Tech, he judged both livestock and meat, and later coached the nationally competitive meat judging team. Michael is also a former agricultural science teacher and county extension agent, guiding countless students and producers toward livestock success. His leadership extends to the national level as an instructor for Stock Show University, where he has taught young exhibitors across the country the skills they need to succeed inside and outside the ring. Alongside his wife Amy, Michael has raised four daughters, all of whom have had notable show careers. Their achievements include multiple Breed Champions at every major Texas show and Reserve Champion Steer at Rodeo Austin. As a respected livestock evaluator, Michael has judged at the State Fair of Texas, Houston Livestock Show, Fort Worth Stock Show, San Angelo Livestock Show, New Mexico State Fair, and many prospect and county shows throughout the region. His ability to connect with families, educate exhibitors, and recognize excellence makes him a trusted authority in the industry. That's who's in your corner with Show Smart.

FAQ

  • Why pay when YouTube is free?

If you get three recipes for the same dish and jumble them together, the dish doesn't work. Same with raising a show lamb. YouTube gives you ten different people saying ten different things. Show Smart gives you one proven system from people who live this every day—they raise livestock, coach kids, and judge shows. Get the fundamentals down first, then make it your own.

  • Is this for beginners?

It's for families in their first few years of showing and 4-H leaders who want to deliver a solid foundation. Whether you've never done this before or you're a couple years in and still have questions, this is for you.

  • Will I get charged again?

No. $197 is a one-time payment for 365 days of access. No subscriptions, no auto-renewals. Many 4-H leaders renew each year so new members can start with the fundamentals while returning kids get a refresher.

  • What if we don't finish it all?

You have a full year. Watch at your pace, skip to what you need, come back before show day. It's there when you need it.

  • What topics does Show Smart cover?

Selection, feeding, facilities, equipment, daily care, health, showmanship, and show prep. The complete project from start to finish.
